He was appointed Missionary with Assemblies of God World Missions (USA) since 1994 and has full professional proficiency in Tagalog, the national language of the Philippines. D-Miss dissertation in Asia Graduate School of Theology, 2004 MA Thesis Title: A Study of the Animistic Practices of the Waray People of the Leyte-Samar Region of the Philippines. Master’s Thesis, Asia Pacific Theological Seminary, 2000. (done independent of a degree program). He has also published a number of articles in peer-reviewed and non-peer reviewed journals and chapters in books. Other Ministry Responsibilities at APTS He served as the coordinator of the Master of Theology Program from 2013-19 and continues to serve on the Post Graduate committee that oversees the master of theology, doctor of ministry and PhD programs at APTS. He particularly enjoys being a research mentor for some of the post-grad students. He also directed the Missionary Training Institute from 2017-19 and occasionally teaches an MA/MDiv level class in intercultural studies. Ministry Outside of APTS He served from February, 2017 to June, 2020, on the leadership team, along with his wife, Debbie, of a local international church. He also occasionally preaches or does occasional seminars in local churches and ministers’ meetings. Family and Personal Interests Dave has been married to Debbie Langley Johnson since July 26, 1997. Evangelism and church planting has been Dave’s passion since coming to the Philippines in 1994, and it continues to be a major focus. Additionally, he is passionate about doing theology in the local context as well as reflecting on it through writing. His forthcoming book, Theology in Context: A Case Study in the Philippines, which is his doctoral dissertation rewritten for a wider audience, is one evidence of this passion. His recent acceptance of the managing editor’s position of the Asian Journal of Pentecostal Studies and the Directorship of APTS Press will provide other opportunities for expressing the passion. Apart from the ministry he enjoys spending time with Debbie, reading, weightlifting, basketball, walking, and playing with Sam, his Doberman
